Delaney's Weekly Digest: All Things GPUG For the Week of Dec. 21

Happy Holidays & Happy New Year from GPUG!

This is my last weekly digest for 2015. What a year! At this time in 2014 I was a senior in college and had just finished finals week. If you had told me in December 2014 that by December 2015 I would be the GPUG Program Coordinator for Dynamic Communities, Inc. and manage to be an onsite manager at a HUGE Summit conference without any crazy mishaps, I would have laughed and said "In my dreams!" But, look at me now!

I encourage you all to take a moment and reflect on everything you learned over the past 365 days, whether that was how to create Pivot Tables in Excel or how to be an effective leader - big or small, everything we learn takes us a step closer to the person we strive to be, both professionally and personally. Please share your "Look at me now!" story either by posting a blog of your own, commenting on this blog, or sharing via Twitter (tag @GPUG so we can see it!)

Announcing our NEW Microsoft Tools Series!

This series, previously referred to as "Microsoft EDU", provides education regarding Microsoft technologies across all user groups, including AXUG, CRMUG, GPUG, and NAVUG. MR crashes when running the Missing Account Analysis

$

When you try to use the Missing Account Analysis in Management Reporter, it may crash with the following errors:

"The operation could not be completed due to a failure on the server"

“Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation"

This has been corrected in CU14. If you are not able to apply CU14, the workaround is to create a new building block group. To do that, follow these steps:

1. Have all users exit MR and then back up the ManagementReporter SQL database.

2. Go to Company | Building Block Groups.

3. Select the building block group that contains the reports.

4. Click Export.

5. Select the definitions to export on each tab.

6. Click Export and choose a location to create the .tdbx file.

7. Once you have export the reports, click New in the Building Block Groups window.

8. Enter a name and description. Click OK.

9. Click Import and then select the .tdbx that contains the building blocks you want to import.

10. Select the definitions to import on each tab.

11. Click Import.

12. Go to Company | Companies | Modify and assign the new building block group to your company.

I hope you found this information useful.

Enjoy,

Greg

Budget information missing from Management Reporter reports

$

0

If you generate a report in MR and your budget information is missing, there are a few things you can check to troubleshoot this.

  • Confirm you are logged into the correct company.

While this may seem obvious, it is easy to overlook. MR will only pull in budget data from the company you are logged into or the company the report definition is set to. If you share building blocks between companies, your column definition may have the budget ID from another company. You’ll want to check that the budget ID in the column definition exists for the company you are generating the report for.

  • Confirm the budget is set up with Fiscal Year.

In Dynamics GP, open the Budget Maintenance card and confirm that the Based On field is set to Fiscal Year. If it is set to Date Range, MR will not read the budget.

  • Confirm that the GL00201 has a value in the YEAR1 column.

Run this statement against the GP company database:

select * from GL00201 where YEAR1 = ''

If you get results, you’ll need to update the YEAR1 value to have a year for the budget. If the YEAR1 is blank, MR cannot read the budget.

  • If you are using Analytical Accounting and this is an AA budget, the budget must be budgeted down to the lowest level.

I hope you found this information helpful.

Enjoy,

Greg

The Dynamics GP User Group (GPUG) is a user-driven, independent organization powered by Dynamic Communities, Inc. GPUG is centered around users helping users maximize the value they receive from Microsoft Dynamics GP.

Here's What Happened at GPUG This Week

Community Announcement

In a statement in our Boost Newsletter, GPUG Director Kim Peterson announced she will be leaving her position and moving on to new adventures.  I have loved getting to know Kim over the last 6 months as I've been GPUG Program Coordinator and have thought of her as both a mentor and a friend. I'm excited to continue to work with her as she enters her new role. Read GPUG Advisory Board Chair, Aaron Back's, reaction here.

Get To Know A GPUG Member Program - Volunteer Your Peers!

This month we started a new program titled "Get To Know a GPUG Member." We featured a volunteer in the GPUG community - Rod O'Connor of Briware Solutions, Inc. and asked him a few questions about himself so we could get to know him. But no one knows the Users in the GPUG space better than other Users, so I encourage you to email Delaney@GPUG.com with names of anyone you would like to nominate to be featured and get the recognition they deserve.
